Review : Sapphire & Platinum, Books 1 & 2 of the Facets of Passion Series by Jeffe Kennedy

Sapphire
Facets of Passion, Book 1
By Jeffe Kennedy

Publisher: Carina Press

Book Description

A successful executive, M. Taylor Hamilton is on track with her ten-year plan. Too bad her personal life consists of hitting the gym and grocery shopping. Enter the seductive Adam Kirliss. They may have a working relationship, but everything changes at an office party when he handcuffs her to the rail of a yacht.

Taylor writes the adventure off as too much champagne, but when Adam challenges her to a date, she agrees to meet up with him. And follow his rules. They share a night of exquisite intimacy, brimming with both pain and pleasure. But afterwards, fearful of losing her heart, Taylor pulls back emotionally.

Adam is determined to prove that she longs for the loss of control he can give her – and the passionate release it provides. How can he make her see that he wants her, and not just her body?

My Review

The first book in Jeffe Kennedy’s Facets of Passion series, Sapphire, is a rapidly paced, hot, steamy introduction to the BDSM sub-genre. A tightly wound businesswoman known as “the ice queen”, meets her equal in a man who won’t take no for an answer. Engaging in some D/s play, their encounter is actually the beginning of what could become a lasting relationship.

The scenes between Taylor and Adam are hot, emotionally charged and pretty well paced. Forcing her characters to face what they really want, Ms. Kennedy forces them to deal with their pasts, their emotions and their expectations.

Will Taylor realize opening herself emotionally could give her more than she has ever imagined? Will Taylor and Adam’s fledgling relationship last for more than one night? You’ll have to read Sapphire to find out. I thought it was a good beginning for the series.

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Stars

Platinum
Book 2 Facets of Passion
Jeffe Kennedy

Althea Grant is doing fine. Sure, her Charleston gallery is suffering from the bad economy, and her artistic aspirations have gone nowhere. But she’s happy enough. When rugged metal sculptor Steel rides up on his motorcycle looking to rent studio space, his infusion of cash is more than welcome. But his art is raw, visceral, sexual—and completely inappropriate for her pastel world of watercolor landscapes.

Steel, fascinated by Althea’s rare albino coloring, sees in her the key to his next piece: a metal satyr that can be used for bondage games. Moving into her gallery basement is the first step; seducing the coolly polite lady into modeling for him is the second.

As Steel peels away her careful manners and tasteful outfits, Althea begins to realize her life isn’t just fine at all—it’s as pale and washed-out as the watercolor paintings she’s failing to sell. Can she transform her life and accept her most secret desires?

My Review

Platinum, the second book in Jeffe Kennedy’s Facets of Passion series, is a rapidly paced hot romance with some even hotter BDSM elements. Likable characters, scintillating dialogue and just the right amount of emotional angst, kept me turning the pages from the very first page. While a part of a series, each of these books can be read on its own; there are no recurring characters.

Jumping at the chance to keep her struggling gallery afloat, former artist Althea Grant isn’t prepared for the changes letting “Steel” into her life will bring. Realizing how “safe” and boring everything in her life has become, Althea allows herself to act on what she wants and watches her life change.

A bad boy turned artist, Mike McReady, or “Steel”, is attracted to Althea from their first meeting. An angry young man who learned to channel his emotions into his art, Steel is a Dom looking for the perfect submissive. He just never expected to fall in love at first sight or on finding peace in his submissives arms.

Ms. Kennedy does a good job developing the D/s relationship between Steel and Althea. Experienced in the lifestyle, Steel helps Althea get in touch with the woman within her skin, while Althea helps Steel learn what it means to really be in love.

Will Althea realize Steel not only loves her but that his art could be what saves her gallery if she’s willing to take a risk? Will Steel realize Althea is the only muse he’ll ever need? You’ll have to read Platinum to find out. I really enjoyed it and I think you will too.
