Turning down a billet at Mike’s Place in Dallas, Sergeant A.J. Turner left Iraq for Freewill, Wyoming with one goal in mind—to forget the last five years. Trading his MARPATS for jeans and his cover for a cowboy hat, he plans to work his ranch and pray the green grass, tall trees, and sweet mountains can wash away the taste of the desert.

The last thing he expected was a reminder of a promise made to his buddies: one night to help them all start again.

Sheri Vaughn quit her corporate job, sold her house and moved to Freewill on a whim. Six months after her divorce, she’s hardly ready to put her toe in the dating waters again. One bottle of wine later, however, she signs up for Madame Eve’s exclusive 1Night Stand service and lists a very particular set of qualities she wants in a man; he must be honorable, courageous, forthright, single, have served as Marine, but be a cowboy at heart. If she wants to dream, at least she can dream big.

But when local hero A.J. Turner arrives home, Madame Eve comes through, and Sheri has to find the courage to make her dream a reality…

Can one night, even a night arranged by Madame Eve, fulfill both a promise and a dream?

My Review

Short, sweet and smoking hot, Heather Long's The Marine Cowboy is a fantastic lunchtime, or anytime, break.  With likable characters, good dialogue and plenty of sexual chemistry, Ms. Long's story grabbed my attention from the first page and was really over too soon.  I know I want to know more about what happens with these characters.

Home after service seven years in the marines, and five of them in Iraq, A.J. Turner just wants to get back to the simple, hard working life of working on his family's ranch in Wyoming.  Making a low key entry back into town, A.J. discovers life in Freewill is pretty much the same.  The only difference is the town's new librarian, a lovely looking young brunette.  Getting back into the swing of life on the ranch, A.J. has forgotten about signing up for the 1Night Stand dating service until he gets a call that his potential date has been arranged.

Starting over after a painful divorce, lawyer Sheri Vaughn leaves L.A. behind for a quiet life in Freewill, Wyoming.  Becoming the town's librarian is much less stressful than dealing with traffic, smog and an unfaithful husband.  Ready to try dating again, Sheri signs up as a 1Night Stand dating client - with a very particular list of requirements.  Her date must be an active or former marine, a cowboy and completely single - cheaters need not apply.  When she's informed her date is arranged, Sherri secretly hopes it's with A.J., the town's local hero.

The scenes between A.J. and Sheri are well written, fun and very hot. They have incredible verbal, physical and sexual chemistry right from the start.  I really liked how Ms. Long developed these two characters, brought them together and gave us a peak into their first romantic encounter.

Will Sheri and A.J. be happy once their 1Night Stand is over or will they want more?  You'll have to read The Marine Cowboy to find out.  While a part of a series, this book can easily be read on it's own.  I didn't read any of the previous books in the series and was able to enjoy it on its own.  I know I'll be hitting up Amazon later this week for more of Ms. Long's Always a Marine series.

My Rating:  5 out of 5 Stars
